The Family and Consumer Sciences Department “Camp XLR8 with FCS - Defining our Legacy” consists of a four day session for students with an interest in pursuing a career in Family and Consumer Sciences. Up to 15 students are chosen to participate based on their academic success, extracurricular activities, and involvement in Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs), their interest in Pittsburg State University and Family and Consumer Sciences related fields.

 

Participants will have the opportunity to attend presentations on: degree programs in Family and Consumer Sciences, Fashion Merchandising, Textiles, Weaving, Food Preparation, scholarships in Family and Consumer Sciences, and more.

 

After lunch, participants dedicate their time to work on a prototype project pertaining to one of the following:

 

  • Custom Fabric Creation (Fabric Printing)

  • Clothing Construction (Apparel Design/ Serging)

  • Soft Furnishings (Interior Décor.)

  • Food Product Development (Food Innovation)

 

All of our activities are led by passionate undergraduate Family and Consumer Sciences students.
